Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Developmental Music Specialist with an Early Intervention Focus to join our compassionate team in Milwaukee. This vital role involves utilizing music as a therapeutic tool to support the developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and young children, particularly those with developmental delays, disabilities, or at-risk conditions. The specialist will design and implement individualized and group music interventions, collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, and empower families through education on the profound benefits of music in early childhood development. This is an on-site position, crucial for direct interaction and hands-on therapeutic engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the developmental needs of young children (ages 0-5) through comprehensive music-based observations and evaluations.
- Design and implement individualized and group music therapy interventions tailored to early intervention clients' developmental goals.
- Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other professionals (e.g., occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists) to integrate music into comprehensive developmental plans.
- Document client progress, treatment plans, and outcomes accurately and efficiently in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
- Educate families and caregivers on how to incorporate music into daily routines and play to support developmental milestones and goals.
- Participate actively in team meetings, case conferences, and ongoing professional development activities to enhance practice.
- Maintain a safe, engaging, and age-appropriate therapeutic environment for all music sessions.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy or a closely related field with a strong emphasis on early childhood development.
- Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working directly with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children in an early intervention or pediatric setting.
- Proficiency in playing various musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, ukulele, percussion) and strong vocal skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of child development theories, early intervention principles, and family-centered care models.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills for effective teamwork and family engagement.
- Ability to adapt music interventions creatively to meet diverse developmental needs, cultural backgrounds, and individual learning styles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in Music Therapy, Child Development, or a related therapeutic field.
- Specialized training or additional certifications in early intervention programs, developmental psychology, or related areas.
- Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and strategies in a therapeutic context.
- Bilingual proficiency, especially in Spanish, to better serve our diverse community.
