Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and thorough Hospital Housekeeper to join our team in a medical setting. This is a crucial role responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You will perform a variety of cleaning tasks using established protocols and safety procedures to prevent the spread of infection and ensure compliance with health regulations. This position offers stable work within a supportive healthcare environment where your contribution directly impacts patient well-being and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties in patient rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, offices, and common areas, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing surfaces.
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, ensuring proper disposal of general waste and biohazardous materials according to VCH guidelines.
- Clean and disinfect washrooms, showers, and other high-touch areas thoroughly.
- Maintain floors, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and shampooing carpets as required.
- Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or broken equipment to supervision promptly.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and departmental procedures.
- Interact respectfully and professionally with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
Required Skills
- Ability to read, write, and understand English to follow instructions and safety warnings.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and repetitive motions for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of basic sanitation and hygiene practices.
- Reliability and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in housekeeping, particularly in a hospital, healthcare, or similar institutional setting.
- Knowledge of infection control principles and WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).
- Certification in professional cleaning or environmental services.
