Job Description
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and self-motivated WFH Cataloguer specializing in Digital Libraries to join our team. This fully remote position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a quiet, independent work environment and possesses a meticulous approach to information organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and enhancing metadata records for our extensive digital collections, ensuring discoverability and accessibility for our patrons. This role requires a deep understanding of cataloguing standards and best practices for digital assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform original and copy cataloguing of digital resources across various formats (e.g., e-books, e-journals, audio, video, images) according to established standards (e.g., RDA, MARC21, Dublin Core).
- Create and maintain high-quality metadata records, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Apply appropriate subject headings, classification schemes (e.g., Library of Congress Classification), and authority control.
- Participate in the development and implementation of cataloguing policies and procedures for digital collections.
- Collaborate with digital initiatives teams to ensure seamless integration of new digital content.
- Conduct quality control and data cleanup of existing metadata records to enhance discoverability.
- Stay current with evolving cataloguing standards, technologies, and trends in digital libraries.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience with MARC21, RDA, and other relevant cataloguing standards for digital materials.
- Proficiency in using integrated library systems (ILS) and other cataloguing tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and metadata creation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a remote, self-directed, and quiet work environment.
- Familiarity with various digital content formats and preservation best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent professional degree.
- Experience with specific digital asset management systems (DAMS) or institutional repositories.
- Knowledge of linked data principles and semantic web technologies.
- Experience with specialized metadata schemas (e.g., MODS, METS, EAD).
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to Calgary's diverse communities.
