Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Local Council Youth Offending Team Assistant to join our dedicated team. This rewarding role involves providing essential administrative and practical support to the Youth Offending Team (YOT), contributing to the effective delivery of services for young people who have offended or are at risk of offending. You will play a crucial part in supporting case management, maintaining records, and engaging with young people and their families, all with the goal of reducing reoffending and promoting positive outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Youth Offending Team, including managing correspondence, scheduling meetings, and preparing documents.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records, databases, and filing systems in compliance with data protection regulations.
- Assist Youth Offending Officers in case management tasks, such as preparing for court appearances, compiling reports, and tracking progress on intervention plans.
- Liaise effectively with young people, their families, and a wide range of partner agencies including police, probation, social services, and educational institutions.
- Support the coordination and delivery of various group work programs and individual interventions designed to address offending behaviour.
- Process referrals, input data, and generate reports to support decision-making and performance monitoring within the YOT.
- Handle telephone and in-person inquiries with sensitivity and professionalism, directing complex issues to appropriate team members.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of YOT services by providing feedback and participating in team meetings and training sessions.
Required Skills
- Proven administrative and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a capacity to interact sensitively with diverse individuals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with database management.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach when working with young people and their families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in an administrative role within a social services, public sector, or youth-focused environment.
- Knowledge of the Canadian youth justice system, local council services, or child protection policies.
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in social work, criminology, psychology, public administration, or a related field.
- Experience in data entry and report generation for service delivery monitoring.
