Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician with a strong patient interaction focus to join our pharmacy team in Murrieta, CA. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in enhancing the patient experience by ensuring seamless medication delivery directly to patients at their bedside prior to discharge from our outpatient facilities. Your primary responsibility will be to interact directly with patients, explain their medications, answer non-clinical questions, and ensure they leave with a clear understanding of their prescription regimen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify eligible patients for the Meds-to-Beds program within outpatient clinics.
  • Engage directly with patients and their families in a professional and empathetic manner to explain the Meds-to-Beds service.
  • Obtain and verify necessary patient information for medication dispensing and delivery.
  • Accurately retrieve, prepare, and deliver prescribed medications to patients at their designated location within the facility.
  • Provide clear, concise, and easy-to-understand instructions on medication usage, storage, and potential side effects (under pharmacist supervision for clinical counseling).
  • Answer general questions about medications and direct clinical questions to the pharmacist.
  • Process payments for prescriptions and manage related paperwork accurately.
  • Collaborate closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain inventory of commonly dispensed medications and supplies for the program.
  • Adhere to all regulatory standards, patient privacy laws (HIPAA), and company policies.
  • Document all patient interactions and medication deliveries thoroughly.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong ability to engage and build rapport with patients.
  • High level of empathy and patience when interacting with individuals who may be ill or stressed.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate medication handling.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and pharmacy software.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift moderate weights for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Kaiser Permanente's systems and protocols.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) to assist diverse patient populations.
  • Previous experience in a retail or outpatient pharmacy setting with direct patient interaction.
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA.
