Job Description

We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic Charter School Music Lead to join our innovative educational environment. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive music program that integrates with our STEM-focused curriculum, encouraging students’ artistic expression and academic growth. The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator, skilled musician, and visionary leader capable of building a thriving music department from the ground up, inspiring students across all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive K-12 music curriculum that aligns with school values and educational standards, fostering creativity and technical skill.
  • Teach a variety of music classes, including instrumental, vocal, and music theory, catering to diverse student interests and abilities.
  • Organize and direct school musical performances, concerts, and extracurricular music ensembles (e.g., choir, band, orchestra).
  • Integrate music education with STEM subjects to demonstrate interdisciplinary connections and enhance student understanding.
  • Manage the music department's budget, resources, and inventory of instruments and equipment.
  • Mentor and collaborate with other faculty members to infuse music and arts into the broader school culture.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback, maintaining high standards of musical achievement.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding program goals and student development.
  • Stay current with best practices in music education and technology, incorporating innovative teaching methods.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification/license for K-12 music in Tennessee
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience teaching music at the K-12 level, preferably in a charter or innovative school setting
  • Proficiency in multiple musical instruments or vocal disciplines
  • Strong pedagogical skills and a deep understanding of music theory and history
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead engaging music programs and performances
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary educational environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
  • Experience with curriculum development and program leadership
  • Familiarity with incorporating technology (e.g., digital audio workstations, music notation software) into music instruction
  • Experience in grant writing or fundraising for arts programs
  • Portfolio or examples of previous student performances or musical projects led
