Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Professional Hospital Porter to join our vital support team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. In this essential role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of patients, equipment, medical records, and various supplies throughout our hospital facilities. Your contribution will be crucial to the smooth operation of daily hospital activities, directly impacting patient care and the efficiency of clinical teams. This role requires excellent physical stamina, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and other areas using wheelchairs, trolleys, and beds.
- Moving medical equipment, specimens, blood products, and confidential records as required.
- Delivering and collecting mail, linen, and other supplies across the hospital site.
- Assisting with the safe movement of deceased patients to the mortuary.
- Responding promptly to requests from medical and nursing staff.
- Maintaining cleanliness and functionality of transport equipment.
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
- Providing compassionate and reassuring interaction with patients and their families.
Required Skills
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina, with the ability to lift, push, and pull heavy items.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a polite and empathetic approach.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering role, ideally within a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of manual handling techniques and patient transport protocols.
- Basic IT literacy for using communication devices or internal systems.
- A valid UK driving license (desirable for certain tasks).
