Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Crisis Hotline Assistant to join our fully remote team. This vital role involves providing immediate, text-based support to individuals experiencing various forms of crisis, including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and more. As a Crisis Hotline Assistant, you will be the first point of contact, offering empathetic listening, de-escalation, and resource referral through our secure text messaging platform. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to make a significant impact from the comfort of your home.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with individuals in crisis via text message, providing empathetic and non-judgmental support.
- Utilize active listening and problem-solving skills to assess crisis situations and de-escalate emotional distress.
- Follow established protocols and guidelines for crisis intervention, ensuring safety and confidentiality.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other team members as needed for complex cases or support.
- Maintain accurate and concise records of all interactions and follow-up actions.
- Provide referrals to appropriate mental health services, emergency resources, and support networks.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development sessions.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to convey empathy and clarity through text.
- Strong active listening skills and the ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and text-based communication platforms.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Reliable internet connection and a private, quiet workspace.
- Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the USA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in crisis intervention, counseling, or a related support role (volunteer or paid).
- Familiarity with mental health resources and community support services.
- Ability to speak and write in Spanish or other languages in addition to English.
- Certification in crisis intervention or mental health first aid.
