Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Creative Arts Therapist to join our dynamic mental health clinic team in Downey, CA. This role is integral to providing holistic care, utilizing various artistic modalities to support our patients’ emotional, cognitive, and social development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in art therapy, music therapy, dance/movement therapy, or drama therapy, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and healing environment. You will work with diverse populations, including individuals, groups, and families, across various age ranges, contributing significantly to their therapeutic journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement individualized and group creative arts therapy interventions.
  • Assess patient needs, strengths, and goals using appropriate creative arts therapy assessments.
  • Facilitate therapeutic art, music, drama, or dance/movement sessions to promote self-expression, coping skills, and emotional processing.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in electronic health records.
  • Educate patients and families on the benefits and techniques of creative arts therapy.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards of practice for creative arts therapists.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, or a related creative arts therapy field.
  • Board Certification (ATR-BC, MT-BC, R-DMT, RDT) or eligibility for certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid state license or registration as required for practice in California (e.g., LMFT, LPCC if applicable with relevant coursework).
  • Minimum 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience in a mental health setting.
  • Proficiency in diverse creative arts modalities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with specific populations such as adolescents, older adults, or individuals with trauma.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English).
  • Experience with group facilitation and curriculum development.
  • Additional certifications or training in specialized therapeutic approaches (e.g., DBT, CBT, trauma-informed care).
