Job Description
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic 14-year-old looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills, contribute to your community, and make a real difference in the lives of younger campers? The YMCA of Greater San Antonio invites you to join our team as a Camp Counselor Trainee with a focus on leadership development. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring young leaders to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic camp setting. You will work closely with experienced camp staff, learn the fundamentals of camp operations, and participate in a structured leadership curriculum designed to hone your abilities. This role is perfect for someone eager to learn, serve, and grow within a supportive team environment, preparing you for future leadership roles within the YMCA and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow and assist experienced Camp Counselors and staff in daily camp activities.
- Act as a positive role model for younger campers, demonstrating YMCA core values.
- Participate actively in leadership training sessions and workshops.
- Help organize and facilitate group games, crafts, and educational activities.
- Support the creation of a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for all campers.
- Assist with camp setup and cleanup, ensuring a well-maintained camp area.
- Learn and apply basic first-aid and safety procedures under supervision.
- Communicate effectively with fellow trainees, staff, and campers.
- Take initiative to identify and address minor camper needs or concerns, escalating as necessary.

- Must be 14 years of age by the start of the program.
