Job Description

Are you passionate about serving your community and looking for a fulfilling career in public safety? The Denver Fire Department is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Fire Truck Driver (Trainee). This entry-level position is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, providing comprehensive training to become a skilled and certified fire truck driver. You will learn the critical aspects of operating fire apparatus, emergency vehicle driving, and essential firefighting support. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all required training programs, including classroom instruction, practical driving exercises, and emergency response simulations.
  • Learn and master the safe and efficient operation of various fire department vehicles, including pumpers, ladders, and support vehicles.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, department policies, and safety protocols during training and eventual emergency responses.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles, ensuring all equipment is operational and stocked.
  • Assist firefighters with equipment deployment, hose lays, and other support functions at incident scenes.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean, orderly, and ready state for immediate use.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Denver's street grid, hydrant locations, and emergency response routes.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a specified timeframe after hire.
  • Strong commitment to public safety and community service.
  • Excellent physical fitness and ability to pass physical agility tests.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-stress environments.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a related field (e.g., EMS, military, heavy equipment operation).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Residency within the City and County of Denver.
