Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Care Home Cook to join our dedicated team in Ferryhill, Aberdeen. This rewarding role involves preparing and cooking nutritious, delicious, and varied meals for our residents, taking into account individual dietary requirements and preferences. You will play a crucial part in our residents’ well-being, ensuring they enjoy high-quality food in a friendly and professional environment. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook varied, high-quality meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring they are nutritious and appealing.
- Cater to diverse dietary needs, including diabetic, gluten-free, pureed, and cultural requirements, in consultation with residents and care staff.
- Manage kitchen stock, place orders, and maintain accurate records of food supplies and deliveries.
- Ensure strict adherence to food hygiene regulations (HACCP) and health and safety standards at all times.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised kitchen environment, overseeing the cleaning schedules and equipment maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with the care team to understand residents' preferences and provide a pleasant dining experience.
- Manage food budget effectively and minimise waste.
- Assist with menu planning, introducing variety and seasonal produce where appropriate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Cook, preferably in a care home, hospital, or similar institutional catering environment.
- A valid Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or equivalent minimum).
- Excellent understanding of dietary requirements, allergens, and nutritional needs for older adults.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for food and making a positive impact on residents' lives.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or Catering.
- Experience with budget management and stock control systems.
- Knowledge of current care home standards and regulations related to catering.
