Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Liberties Researcher with a strong focus on Constitutional Law to join our dynamic team in Visalia. This critical role involves conducting in-depth research, analysis, and reporting on issues related to constitutional rights and civil liberties. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of constitutional law, excellent research skills, and a commitment to advancing justice and equality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive legal and factual research on constitutional law issues, civil rights, and civil liberties, including First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, due process, and equal protection.
  • Analyze legislation, court decisions, and public policies to assess their impact on civil liberties.
  • Prepare detailed research reports, memoranda, policy briefs, and other written materials for legal staff, advocates, and the public.
  • Monitor current events and emerging trends in constitutional law and civil liberties.
  • Assist in developing strategies for litigation, policy advocacy, and public education campaigns.
  • Collaborate with legal teams, policy experts, and community partners on various projects.
  • Present research findings to internal teams and external stakeholders as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in Constitutional Law, including U.S. Supreme Court jurisprudence.
  • Exceptional legal research and analytical skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Proficiency in legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Law, Public Policy, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of experience in legal research, policy analysis, or advocacy, particularly concerning civil liberties.
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations or advocacy groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and social justice.
