Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled GC-MS Analyst to join our high-precision laboratory team in Santa Clarita, CA. This pivotal role involves the expert operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) systems to analyze a wide range of samples for various applications, including pharmaceutical, environmental, and forensic sciences. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of our analytical data, contributing significantly to critical research and development projects. This is an on-site lab role requiring a strong commitment to quality and scientific excellence. A sign-on bonus is offered for this role to attract top talent.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex GC-MS analyses on diverse sample types (e.g., raw materials, in-process, finished products, environmental samples).
- Develop, validate, and optimize GC-MS analytical methods according to project requirements and regulatory guidelines.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GC-MS instrumentation, ensuring optimal performance, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
- Interpret and report analytical data accurately and efficiently, identifying deviations or out-of-specification results.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, notebooks, and LIMS entries in compliance with quality standards.
- Adhere to strict quality control procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GLP, GMP).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support project goals and data interpretation.
- Assist in training junior analysts on GC-MS techniques, best practices, and laboratory procedures.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting GC-MS instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of chromatographic principles and mass spectrometry.
- Extensive experience with various sample preparation techniques for GC-MS analysis.
- Ability to interpret complex analytical data, identify unknowns, and perform data integration.
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures and data integrity principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with specific GC-MS software platforms (e.g., ChemStation, MassHunter, Xcalibur).
- Proven track record in analytical method development and validation.
- Familiarity with regulatory guidelines such as GLP, GMP, or ISO 17025.
- Experience working in a contract research organization (CRO) or pharmaceutical environment.
