Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Geriatric Music Program Lead to design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive music therapy and engagement program for our senior residents at our Vacaville facility. This flexible role requires a creative individual with a strong understanding of geriatric care and the therapeutic benefits of music. The Lead will be responsible for developing individualized and group music activities, managing program resources, and training staff to support musical engagement. This position is vital in enriching the lives of our residents, promoting cognitive function, emotional well-being, and social interaction through the power of music.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and lead engaging music programs and therapeutic music sessions for individuals and groups of senior residents.
  • Assess residents' musical interests, cognitive abilities, and physical limitations to tailor appropriate activities.
  • Train and supervise facility staff and volunteers on basic music engagement techniques and program support.
  • Manage program budget, resources, and musical instruments, ensuring their availability and proper maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other activity coordinators, care staff, and therapists to integrate music into a holistic resident care plan.
  • Document resident participation, progress, and outcomes for program evaluation and care planning.
  • Stay current with best practices in geriatric music therapy and activities, incorporating new ideas into programs.
  • Organize special musical events, performances, and community collaborations within the facility.
  • Ensure all music programs adhere to safety standards and facility policies.
  • Provide a supportive and joyful environment that encourages participation and self-expression through music.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with older adults, preferably in a senior care or healthcare setting.
  • Proven ability to lead and facilitate music programs, including singing, instrument playing, and rhythmic activities.
  • Strong understanding of the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of geriatric populations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect effectively with residents, families, and staff.
  • Proficiency with a variety of musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, ukulele) and vocal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated organizational and program management skills.
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC).
  • Experience in program development and curriculum design for senior populations.
  • Familiarity with electronic music resources and assistive music technology.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
