Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Lumber Loader to join our team at the Leeds store. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of various types of lumber, ensuring our stock is organized and readily available for customers. You will also play a crucial role in assisting customers with their lumber selections and helping them load purchases into their vehicles, providing excellent service with a friendly approach. This position requires regular heavy lifting and a commitment to maintaining a safe and tidy work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload lumber and other heavy building materials from delivery trucks.
- Organize and stack lumber in designated areas, ensuring inventory accuracy and accessibility.
- Assist customers with selecting appropriate lumber and other heavy items.
- Provide friendly and efficient assistance to customers with loading purchases into their vehicles.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lumber yard and storage area.
- Operate manual and potentially powered material handling equipment (training provided if necessary).
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Assist with other general store duties as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to consistently lift and move heavy objects (up to 25kg) throughout the shift.
- Strong physical stamina and endurance.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, or construction environment.
- Familiarity with different types of lumber and building materials.
- Experience operating a forklift or similar material handling equipment (certification a plus, but not required).
