Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Hospital Storeman & Porter to join our essential services team at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. This crucial role involves managing inventory, ensuring efficient storage and distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and consumables throughout the hospital. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate stock levels, assisting with deliveries, and supporting various departments with their logistical needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to supporting the smooth operation of our healthcare environment. This is a hands-on position requiring physical stamina and a proactive approach to maintaining a well-organized and responsive supply chain within our busy hospital warehouse.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods, including medical supplies, equipment, and consumables.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using hospital systems, conducting regular stock checks and reconciliations.
- Organize and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient warehouse environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Transport supplies, equipment, patient records, and other items between departments as required, using appropriate methods.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of delivery vehicles, ensuring items are checked against delivery notes for accuracy.
- Identify and report discrepancies, damages, or stock shortages promptly.
- Liaise with clinical and administrative staff to fulfill supply requests and ensure timely delivery of essential items.
- Operate light machinery (e.g., pallet trucks) safely if required and trained.
- Contribute to waste management and recycling initiatives within the stores area.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a stores, warehouse, or logistics environment, preferably within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and stock control.
- Ability to accurately record and maintain data, with attention to detail.
- Good physical fitness to handle manual handling tasks and prolonged standing/walking.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic IT literacy for stock management systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to health and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing & Storage or equivalent.
- Experience with hospital-specific inventory software.
- Full UK driving license.
- Knowledge of medical terminology or healthcare supplies.
