Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Formulation Chemist to join our innovative Cosmetics & Skincare R&D team in Torrance, CA. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals with foundational chemistry knowledge eager to launch their career in cosmetic product development. You will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of skincare and cosmetic formulation, from concept to pilot scale. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced scientists, contribute to exciting new product launches, and grow your expertise in a dynamic and supportive laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and optimization of new and existing cosmetic and skincare formulations under the guidance of senior chemists.
- Prepare laboratory batches, conduct stability testing, and perform basic analytical measurements (e.g., pH, viscosity, specific gravity).
- Document experimental procedures, observations, and results accurately and thoroughly in laboratory notebooks and electronic systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace, ensuring compliance with GLP and internal safety protocols.
- Calibrate and operate laboratory equipment relevant to formulation and testing.
- Source and evaluate raw materials, collaborating with suppliers as needed.
- Participate in team meetings, contributing ideas and learning from experienced colleagues.
- Support scale-up activities and technology transfer from lab to pilot plant.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, or a closely related scientific field.
- Basic understanding of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and material science principles.
- Proficiency in general laboratory techniques and safety practices.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to meticulously record data and observe experimental outcomes.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship, research, or academic project experience in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods formulation.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures (e.g., GLP, GMP).
- Knowledge of raw materials used in cosmetic and skincare formulations.
- A genuine passion for the beauty and skincare industry and a desire to learn.
