Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Chemist specializing in Quality Control (QC) to join our high-volume production team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role is critical in ensuring the quality, purity, and consistency of our chemical products, supporting our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will perform a variety of analytical tests, interpret data, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within our dynamic manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and non-routine analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using various analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer, titrators).
  • Interpret and analyze complex data, documenting results accurately and concisely according to established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with production and R&D teams.
  • Develop and validate new analytical methods or improve existing ones to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Participate in process improvement projects aimed at optimizing product quality, yield, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain thorough and organized laboratory records, including logbooks, data sheets, and instrument usage logs.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to production operators regarding quality-related issues and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Quality Control or analytical chemistry role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in high-volume chemical production.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a wide range of analytical instrumentation (HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis).
  • Strong understanding of chemical principles, analytical techniques, and statistical process control.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and root cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and other data management software.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems and GMP regulations.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma).
  • Experience in method development and validation.
  • Prior experience working with hazardous chemicals and understanding of chemical safety protocols.
