Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Neonatal ICU (NICU) Nurse with advanced training to join our dedicated team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This critical role involves providing specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns in our state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of neonatal physiology, strong critical thinking abilities, and a commitment to family-centered care. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, individualized nursing care to neonates requiring intensive care, including premature infants, those with birth defects, infections, or surgical conditions.
  • Monitor vital signs, administer medications, manage ventilators and other life-sustaining equipment.
  • Perform advanced assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and implement evidence-based care plans.
  • Collaborate effectively with neonatologists, residents, respiratory therapists, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Educate and support families regarding their infant's condition, treatment plan, and discharge needs.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient status, interventions, and responses.
  • Participate in daily rounds, contribute to care conferences, and advocate for patient needs.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including infection control and patient safety protocols.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in professional development and advanced training initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Level III or IV NICU setting
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications (NRP required within 6 months of hire)
  • Demonstrated expertise in neonatal assessment, medication administration, and ventilator management
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with families and healthcare team members
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Advanced certification in Neonatal Intensive Care (RNC-NIC)
  • Experience with ECMO, therapeutic hypothermia, or other advanced neonatal therapies
  • Preceptorship or charge nurse experience
  • Membership in professional organizations such as the Academy of Neonatal Nurses (ANN)
