Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Optics & Photonics Engineering Intern to join our Laser Technology team in Guelph. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge laser systems and optical components. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists, contributing to real-world projects and advancing their understanding of optical physics and engineering principles. This role is ideal for students passionate about lasers, fiber optics, and photonics, looking to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, simulation, and prototyping of optical systems and laser modules.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and collect data on laser performance and optical component characteristics.
  • Perform data analysis, interpret results, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Support the assembly, testing, and calibration of optical setups and laser systems.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and problem-solving for existing and new laser products.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Fundamental understanding of optics, photonics, and laser principles.
  • Familiarity with optical lab equipment (e.g., power meters, oscilloscopes, spectrometers).
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with optical design software (e.g., Zemax, COMSOL).
  • Prior experience in a research or industrial lab setting.
  • Knowledge of fiber optics or integrated photonics.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control or experimental design.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
