Job Description
Are you a highly energetic student looking for a rewarding summer experience in the great outdoors? YHA is seeking enthusiastic Outdoor Activity Helpers to join our team in Swansea for the summer season. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, support a range of outdoor activities, and make a real difference in the lives of young people. If you love adventure, have a positive attitude, and are ready for a hands-on role, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Assist activity leaders in delivering a variety of outdoor pursuits, including hiking, watersports, and team-building exercises.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants at all times, following established safety protocols.
- Prepare and maintain equipment, ensuring it is clean, safe, and ready for use.
- Engage with participants of all ages, fostering a fun, inclusive, and encouraging environment.
- Support the general upkeep and cleanliness of activity areas and facilities.
- Participate in team briefings and debriefings to ensure smooth operation of activities.
- Provide administrative support as needed, such as registration or equipment check-out.
Required Skills
- High level of energy and enthusiasm for outdoor activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, throughout the summer season.
- Physical fitness suitable for outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a youth work, childcare, or coaching role.
- Basic knowledge of outdoor first aid (certification preferred but not essential, training can be provided).
- Experience participating in or leading outdoor activities (e.g., hiking, kayaking, climbing).
- Current student status or recent graduate looking for summer employment.
