Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and patient-focused Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician to join our pharmacy team at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring a seamless and positive medication discharge experience for our patients. The Meds-to-Beds program aims to provide patients with their prescribed medications at their bedside prior to discharge, reducing readmissions and improving medication adherence. This role requires exceptional interpersonal skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep commitment to patient care. You will be a key point of contact for patients, families, nurses, and pharmacists, facilitating communication and ensuring all medication needs are met efficiently and compassionately.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with nursing staff and pharmacists to identify eligible patients for the Meds-to-Beds program.
- Engage directly with patients and their families to explain the Meds-to-Beds service, answer non-clinical questions, and obtain necessary consent.
- Process patient prescriptions, including entering orders, verifying insurance information, and coordinating with prescribers for clarifications.
- Dispense medications accurately and efficiently under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Deliver medications to patient bedsides prior to discharge, providing a brief explanation of the medications and answering basic questions as directed by a pharmacist.
- Collect co-pays and process payments accurately.
- Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and patient interactions.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and AdventHealth pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Assist with inventory management and maintaining a clean, organized pharmacy environment.
- Proactively identify and resolve potential medication-related issues in collaboration with pharmacists and nurses.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current Florida Pharmacy Technician registration/license in good standing.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an outpatient or retail setting.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong focus on patient interaction.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and electronic health records (EHR).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in medication handling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
- Experience with Meds-to-Beds or similar discharge medication programs.
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
