Job Description

Join CTtransit as a Paratransit Driver and become a vital part of our team, providing essential transportation services to individuals with disabilities and senior citizens in the New Haven area. This role is perfect for empathetic individuals who are passionate about community support and eager to learn, as comprehensive training will be provided. You will operate specialized vehicles, ensuring safe, comfortable, and timely transport for our passengers, assisting them with boarding and alighting, and providing a friendly, supportive environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate paratransit vehicles, including vans and small buses, following scheduled routes and responding to dispatch requests.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities, including those using wheelchairs or other mobility aids, with boarding, securing, and alighting from the vehicle.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations to ensure a secure environment for all passengers.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and compassionate demeanor when interacting with passengers, their families, and the public.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, report any maintenance issues, and ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle.
  • Accurately complete daily logs, passenger manifests, and incident reports as required.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch regarding route progress, delays, and passenger needs.
  • Undergo and successfully complete all required training programs and certifications.

Required Skills

  • Valid Driver's License (Class D or higher)
  • Clean driving record for the past 3 years
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a customer-focused attitude
  • Ability to operate a vehicle safely in various weather conditions
  • Physical ability to assist passengers, including lifting and securing wheelchairs (up to 50 lbs)

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in a customer service or caregiving role
  • Experience driving a commercial vehicle or large passenger van
  • Knowledge of New Haven area roadways and geography
