Job Description
Are you a high school student with a passion for pets and looking for a rewarding weekend job? PetSmart in New Port Richey is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Part-time High School Pet Groomer Aides to join our grooming salon team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in animal care and grooming, working alongside experienced professionals. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort and safety of pets while supporting our groomers in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist professional groomers with pet handling during bathing, drying, and grooming processes.
- Perform basic bathing and drying tasks for various dog breeds under supervision.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the grooming salon, including kennels, workstations, and equipment.
- Ensure all grooming tools and supplies are clean, sterilized, and readily available.
- Monitor pets for signs of distress or discomfort and report any concerns to a groomer immediately.
- Provide fresh water and ensure pets have opportunities for potty breaks as needed.
- Greet pet parents warmly and assist with check-ins and check-outs as directed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.
- Observe and learn from experienced groomers to develop foundational pet care and grooming knowledge.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school.
- Genuine love and passion for animals.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality, especially for weekend shifts.
- Comfortable handling various dog breeds and sizes, including those with different temperaments.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or paid experience with animals (e.g., pet sitting, animal shelter, farm work).
- Basic understanding of animal behavior and safety techniques.
- Availability to work both Saturday and Sunday shifts consistently.
