Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Pinterest Digital Archivist with a strong focus on historical data to join our innovative team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the systematic acquisition, preservation, and organization of Pinterest’s historical data, ensuring its long-term accessibility and integrity. This includes managing complex digital assets, metadata, and data sets from past periods, crucial for research, product development, and understanding digital trends. You will work closely with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to define archival best practices tailored to the unique challenges of visual and social media data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for the long-term preservation and accessibility of Pinterest's historical data and digital assets.
  • Perform extensive data ingestion, cleaning, and metadata application to ensure accurate and consistent archival records.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and optimize scalable archival systems and data pipelines.
  • Conduct regular audits and quality control checks on archived data to verify integrity and compliance with archival standards.
  • Respond to data retrieval requests from internal stakeholders, providing accurate and timely access to historical information.
  • Research and recommend new technologies and methodologies for digital preservation and data management relevant to social media platforms.
  • Document archival processes, policies, and procedures to ensure institutional knowledge transfer and consistency.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in digital archiving, data management, or library sciences with a focus on historical data.
  • Proficiency with digital asset management (DAM) systems and archival software.
  • Strong understanding of metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS) and data modeling.
  • Experience with large-scale data sets, including visual media and user-generated content.
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy regulations, and ethical considerations in data preservation.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL) for data manipulation and automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud-based storage solutions (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
  • Understanding of social media platforms and their data structures.
