Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Scientist to join our dynamic Product Innovation team in Omaha, Nebraska. In this pivotal role, you will lead research and development efforts for new and improved food products, from concept to commercialization. You will be responsible for designing and executing complex experiments, analyzing data, and translating scientific insights into tangible product solutions. This role requires a blend of scientific expertise, creativity, and strong project management skills to drive innovation within our diverse portfolio of brands. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of bringing innovative products to market and a passion for food science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex R&D projects from ideation through commercialization, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Design, execute, and analyze scientific experiments (e.g., ingredient functionality, process optimization, sensory evaluation) to develop novel food products.
  • Formulate new products and optimize existing ones, considering nutritional profiles, sensory attributes, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, culinary, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
  • Stay abreast of emerging food trends, ingredients, technologies, and scientific advancements to identify new opportunities for innovation.
  • Mentor junior scientists and contribute to a culture of scientific excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and technical documentation of research findings and project progress.
  • Ensure all research and development activities comply with food safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food product development or food science research.
  • Proven experience in leading R&D projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Strong understanding of food chemistry, microbiology, and processing principles.
  • Proficiency in experimental design (DOE) and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with specific food categories (e.g., snacks, frozen meals, plant-based foods).
  • Track record of patents, publications, or successful product launches.
  • Familiarity with sensory science methodologies and consumer testing.
  • Experience with pilot plant operations and scale-up.
