Job Description
Hoag Health System is seeking a highly compassionate and skilled Specialized Home Health Aide (HHA) to provide critical post-surgery support to our patients in the comfort of their homes across Irvine and surrounding Orange County areas. This role is pivotal in ensuring a smooth and effective recovery process, offering personalized care, emotional support, and assistance with daily activities. We are looking for individuals who are dedicated, reliable, and possess a deep sense of empathy to empower patients on their healing journey. Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, while maintaining patient dignity.
- Assist with safe patient transfers and ambulation using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition, vital signs, and pain levels to the nursing supervisor.
- Remind patients to take prescribed medications as directed by the care plan.
- Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary restrictions and assist with feeding if necessary.
- Perform light housekeeping duties related to the patient's immediate environment to ensure a clean and safe living space.
- Offer companionship and emotional support, engaging patients in light activities as appropriate.
- Document care provided accurately and timely, adhering to Hoag's policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control procedures.
Required Skills
- Current Home Health Aide (HHA) certification valid in California.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Proven ability to assist patients with personal care and mobility.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong observational and reporting skills.
- Empathy, patience, and a compassionate demeanor.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various patient homes in Irvine and surrounding areas.
- Ability to lift and transfer patients safely, up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an HHA, with a preference for experience in post-surgical care or acute care settings.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and common post-operative care needs.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean) is a plus.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
