Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Surface Chemist with a strong focus on nanotechnology to join our innovative R&D team in New Port Richey, FL. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a cutting-edge laboratory environment, contributing to the development of novel materials and surface modifications with applications across various industries, including aerospace, advanced electronics, and specialty chemicals. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing experiments related to surface properties, thin films, and nanomaterials, leveraging advanced characterization techniques and contributing to intellectual property generation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and perform experiments to synthesize, characterize, and modify surfaces and nanomaterials.
- Utilize advanced analytical techniques such as XPS, SEM, AFM, TEM, contact angle goniometry, and ellipsometry to analyze surface composition, morphology, and properties.
- Develop and optimize surface functionalization methods for improved performance in various applications.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (materials scientists, engineers, physicists) to achieve project goals.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, generate comprehensive reports, and present findings to internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of new intellectual property through patent applications and scientific publications.
- Maintain meticulous laboratory records and ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, performing troubleshooting as needed.
- Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature and technological advancements in surface chemistry and nanotechnology.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proven experience (4+ years) in surface chemistry, thin film deposition, or nanomaterial synthesis/characterization.
- Expertise in at least three advanced surface characterization techniques (e.g., XPS, SEM/TEM, AFM, ellipsometry, contact angle, FTIR-ATR).
- Strong understanding of surface phenomena, adhesion science, and interface engineering.
- Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience in an industrial or academic research setting.
- Experience with atomic layer deposition (ALD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), or physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques.
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry and surface functionalization of polymeric materials.
- Track record of scientific publications and/or patent applications.
- Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., JMP, Minitab) for data analysis.
- Experience in scaling up lab-based processes to pilot or production scale.
