Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and meticulous UPS Metadata Pro to join our data management team in Layton, UT. This critical role is responsible for the overall governance, quality, and integrity of metadata across UPS’s vast and complex data ecosystem. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data modeling, data dictionaries, lineage, and data quality frameworks within a large-scale enterprise, preferably within the logistics or supply chain industry. You will play a pivotal role in defining and implementing metadata standards, ensuring data consistency, and supporting critical business initiatives that rely on accurate and well-defined data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain metadata management policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Design and enforce data naming conventions, data definitions, and data classifications.
  • Utilize metadata management tools to document data lineage, data quality rules, and business glossaries.
  • Collaborate with data architects, data engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure metadata accurately reflects business processes and technical implementations.
  • Perform metadata analysis and profiling to identify data quality issues and discrepancies.
  • Support data governance initiatives by providing expert guidance on metadata best practices.
  • Train and educate data stewards and other users on metadata concepts and tools.
  • Monitor and report on metadata quality and compliance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for metadata related projects and initiatives.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, metadata management, or data architecture roles.
  • Proficiency with metadata management tools (e.g., Informatica EDC, Collibra, Apache Atlas).
  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles (relational, dimensional).
  • Expertise in SQL for data querying and analysis.
  • Experience with data quality frameworks and data lineage concepts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience in the logistics, supply chain, or transportation industry.
  • Certifications in data governance or data management (e.g., CDMP).
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of enterprise data warehousing and big data technologies.
