Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a commercial motor vehicle (tractor-trailer) in accordance with all DOT regulations and company policies.
- Manage business operations effectively, including dispatch, record-keeping, and financial planning.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of freight to various destinations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring the vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and maintain a clean driving record.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch and customer service regarding any delays or issues.
- Maintain professionalism and provide excellent customer service during pickups and deliveries.
- Manage fuel purchasing to take full advantage of provided discounts and maximize profitability.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class A driving experience
- Own or lease a tractor meeting Schneider National's specifications (truck age, condition, and regulatory compliance)
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and CSA score
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Basic business acumen and ability to manage expenses
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various trailer types (dry van, reefer, flatbed)
- Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement
- TWIC card for port access
- Experience running a successful independent trucking business
