Job Description

Join UPS Healthcare as a Lab Assistant, playing a vital role in supporting scientific operations within a dynamic laboratory environment. This position involves critical tasks related to the handling, processing, and management of scientific samples and materials. You will ensure the integrity and proper documentation of specimens, support laboratory staff with operational tasks, and maintain a clean and organized workspace. This role is essential for the smooth functioning of our logistics solutions for scientific research and development, contributing directly to the efficiency and reliability of vital scientific work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, label, and log incoming scientific samples and materials accurately, following strict chain of custody protocols.
  • Prepare samples for transport or storage, ensuring compliance with cold chain, biohazard, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of sample movements, storage locations, and disposition using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or internal tracking systems.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with basic equipment setup, calibration, and routine maintenance as needed.
  • Manage inventory of lab supplies, reagents, and consumables, initiating reorders to prevent stock shortages.
  • Ensure the laboratory environment is clean, organized, and adheres to all safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, FDA).
  • Perform routine quality checks on samples and accompanying documentation to verify accuracy and completeness.
  • Support packaging and shipping activities for outgoing samples and materials, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with lab staff and logistics teams regarding sample status and any discrepancies.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to follow strict protocols, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods.
  • Understanding of basic laboratory safety practices and sterile techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science).
  • Previous experience (1+ year) in a laboratory, logistics, or healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or similar tracking software.
  • Experience with cold chain logistics and handling temperature-sensitive materials.
  • Current certifications in HAZMAT, IATA Dangerous Goods regulations, or similar safety training.
