Job Description

The Department of Chemistry at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a Chemistry Faculty/Lecturer position with a path towards stable tenure. This role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses, conducting research, and contributing to the academic community through service. We are seeking a dynamic educator and researcher committed to fostering student success and advancing chemical sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust research program, secure external funding, and actively participate in departmental and university initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses, including lectures, laboratories, and seminars.
  • Design and implement engaging curriculum materials that promote active learning and critical thinking.
  • Conduct innovative research in an area of chemistry, leading to peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects and academic endeavors.
  • Secure external funding through grant applications to support research activities.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work and student advising.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the chemistry curriculum and program.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research and teaching initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
  • Proven record of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and teach diverse chemistry courses.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral research experience.
  • Experience in securing external research funding.
  • Expertise in a specialized area of chemistry that complements existing departmental strengths (e.g., analytical, physical, materials chemistry).
