Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Board Certified Music Therapist to join our dynamic team. This hospital-based, full-time position offers comprehensive benefits and the opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of patients across various units, including oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, and palliative care. The Music Therapist will design and implement individualized and group music therapy interventions to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs, promoting healing, coping, and well-being within a supportive interdisciplinary team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients' needs and strengths to develop individualized music therapy treatment plans.
- Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions utilizing a variety of techniques (e.g., songwriting, lyric analysis, receptive music listening, improvisation).
- Document patient progress, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner according to hospital standards.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other therapists.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on the benefits and principles of music therapy.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients.
- Participate in departmental meetings, supervision, and continuing education.
Required Skills
- Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) credential.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved program.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-certification clinical experience in a hospital or medical setting.
- Proficiency in playing multiple musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, voice).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to adapt therapy techniques to diverse patient populations and clinical goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific patient populations such as pediatric oncology, NICU, or critical care.
- Advanced certifications or specializations in relevant areas (e.g., GIM, NICU-MT).
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages prevalent in the community.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
