Job Description

Are you passionate about working with children and creating engaging, fun environments? The YMCA of Greater Toronto is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated After-School Program Leaders to join our team in Mississauga. This role is perfect for students or individuals looking for part-time work that fits their schedule, offering a chance to positively impact young lives through creative activities, homework support, and recreational play. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead a variety of engaging and age-appropriate activities including arts & crafts, sports, games, and educational projects.
  • Provide supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all children participating in the program.
  • Assist children with homework and provide academic support as needed.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every child feels valued.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress and daily activities.
  • Maintain program records, including attendance and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with other program staff to ensure smooth program operations and a cohesive team environment.
  • Adhere to all YMCA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or childcare setting (volunteer or paid).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and engage groups of children effectively.
  • Demonstrated patience, creativity, and enthusiasm.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to pass a vulnerable sector police check.
  • Must be available during after-school hours (e.g., 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a post-secondary program related to education, recreation, early childhood education, social work, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of child development principles.
  • Experience with special needs children.
