Job Description
We are urgently seeking dedicated and physically fit individuals to join our team as Airport Baggage Handlers at Newcastle International Airport. This is a critical, fast-paced role essential to ensuring the smooth operation of flights and the timely delivery of passenger luggage. As an Airport Baggage Handler, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of baggage onto and off aircraft, operating baggage handling equipment, and ensuring compliance with all safety and security protocols. This position operates on a shift-based schedule, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays, and offers competitive shift pay. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload baggage, cargo, and mail onto and off aircraft.
- Operate various ground support equipment, including tugs, belt loaders, and forklifts, in a safe and responsible manner.
- Sort and transport luggage to appropriate conveyor belts or aircraft.
- Adhere strictly to all airline and airport safety, security, and operational procedures.
- Perform visual checks of baggage and equipment for damage or security breaches.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet tight deadlines and flight schedules.
- Communicate clearly with team members and flight crews.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist with other ad-hoc tasks as required to ensure smooth airport operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 32kg/70lbs) repeatedly and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Excellent team player with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and noisy environment.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential for shift work.
- Strong commitment to safety and security protocols.
- Valid driving license (required for operating some ground support equipment).
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
- Ability to obtain an Airport Restricted Zone Airside Pass (requires background checks).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an airport or logistics environment.
- Experience operating heavy machinery or ground support equipment.
- First Aid certification.
