Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ballistics Expert to join our advanced research and development team in Charlotte, NC. This critical role involves conducting detailed ballistics analysis, testing, and evaluation of various munitions and projectile systems. The successful candidate will apply deep knowledge of interior, exterior, and terminal ballistics to optimize product performance, ensure safety, and contribute to groundbreaking defense projects. A comprehensive relocation package is supported for qualified candidates willing to move to the Charlotte area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive ballistics testing and analysis on munitions, propellants, and projectile systems.
  • Design and execute experimental test plans to evaluate ballistic performance characteristics.
  • Analyze test data, interpret results, and prepare detailed technical reports and presentations.
  • Utilize advanced simulation and modeling software for ballistic trajectory prediction and impact analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists on product design, development, and improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulatory standards in ballistic testing operations.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot ballistic anomalies and provide expert recommendations.
  • Stay current with advancements in ballistics science, materials, and testing methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in interior, exterior, and terminal ballistics principles.
  • Proficiency with ballistic testing equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with ballistic simulation software (e.g., PRODAS, CTH).
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise technical reports and presentations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • US Citizenship required for security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-speed photography and other advanced diagnostic techniques.
  • Familiarity with DoD standards and specifications.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in forensic ballistics or ammunition manufacturing.
