Job Description
As a Chemistry Project Lead at Pfizer in Memphis, you will be instrumental in driving strategic pharmaceutical development projects from conception through to commercialization. This high-impact role requires a blend of exceptional scientific expertise, robust project management skills, and strategic vision to lead multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for overseeing the chemical aspects of drug discovery and development, ensuring adherence to the highest scientific and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex chemistry projects within the pharmaceutical development pipeline, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for chemical synthesis, process optimization, and analytical method development.
- Oversee experimental design, data interpretation, and troubleshooting for R&D activities related to small molecules.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including biologists, pharmacologists, toxicologists, and regulatory affairs specialists.
- Ensure all project activities comply with regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, ICH) and internal quality standards.
- Manage external collaborations and CROs, overseeing their scientific contributions and project milestones.
- Mentor and guide junior scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific rigor.
- Present project updates, findings, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Contribute to patent applications, scientific publications, and regulatory submissions.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D, with a strong focus on small molecule drug discovery and development.
- Proven track record of successfully leading complex chemistry projects.
- Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanism, and modern analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC).
- Strong understanding of cGMP, ICH guidelines, and pharmaceutical development phases.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience in an academic or industrial setting.
- PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
- Experience with process chemistry and scale-up.
- Familiarity with drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) principles.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing regulatory documents (IND, NDA).
