Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Engineer with a strong specialization in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join our dynamic and innovative team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the UK. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and managing robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure on GCP. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with core GCP services, a deep understanding of cloud best practices, and a passion for automation and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with development and operations teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions that drive business value and enhance our cloud capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, highly available, and secure cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and management of GCP resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deploying cloud-native applications and services.
  • Monitor GCP environments for performance, security, and cost optimization, implementing necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure cloud solutions meet application requirements and architectural standards.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices across GCP environments, including IAM, network security, and data protection.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex cloud infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime and impact.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest GCP services and features, evaluating and recommending their adoption where appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed to support critical systems.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer with significant focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong proficiency in core GCP services (e.g., Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, VPC).
  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (VPC, VPN, Load Balancing, DNS) within GCP.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, Cloud Build).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCP Professional Cloud Engineer certification.
  • Experience with other cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Stackdriver/Cloud Monitoring, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Experience with database administration (SQL, NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
