Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated IV Certified Pharmacy Technician with specialized expertise in sterile compounding to join our dynamic pharmacy team. This critical role is responsible for the accurate and aseptic preparation of sterile products, including IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and other parenteral medications, in a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of USP and guidelines, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile compounds, including IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and other parenteral medications, accurately and aseptically according to established policies and procedures (USP <797> and <800>).
  • Perform calculations for drug dosages and concentrations, ensuring accuracy and verifying against physician orders.
  • Operate and maintain sterile compounding equipment, including laminar airflow hoods (LAFWs), biological safety cabinets (BSCs), and isolators.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring and cleaning of sterile compounding areas in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of compounded preparations, including batch records, expiration dates, and quality control logs.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication inventory management, ordering, and stocking of supplies, particularly sterile compounding components.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and continuous improvement initiatives related to sterile compounding processes.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, as well as hospital policies and procedures related to pharmacy practice and patient safety.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Required Skills

  • Current IV Certification from an accredited program.
  • Active Pharmacy Technician license in the State of California.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in sterile compounding within a hospital or institutional pharmacy setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique and knowledge of USP <797> and <800> guidelines.
  • Strong mathematical skills for accurate dosage calculations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and automation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology or a related field.
  • Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
  • Experience with CSTD (Closed System Transfer Device) for hazardous drug compounding.
  • Familiarity with Epic Willow or similar electronic health record systems.
