Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Education Policy Associate to join our dynamic team at the Public Policy Research Institute. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional passionate about shaping education policy in both K-12 and higher education sectors. The Associate will contribute to research projects, policy analysis, program evaluation, and report writing, working alongside senior researchers and faculty. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of educational systems, and a commitment to evidence-based policy formulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and synthesize research findings related to K-12 and higher education policy.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate statistical software.
  • Draft sections of research reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other deliverables for diverse audiences.
  • Assist in the development of research proposals, grant applications, and project plans.
  • Support the design and implementation of program evaluations for educational initiatives.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings, interviews, and focus groups to gather insights and build relationships.
  • Stay informed about current trends, legislative developments, and best practices in education policy.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, faculty, and external partners on various projects.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in research, policy analysis, or program evaluation (internships included).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS) or qualitative analysis tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Demonstrated interest in K-12 and higher education policy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with survey design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with Texas education policy landscape.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Prior experience working in an academic research setting or think tank.
