Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory Operations Manager with a strong administrative chemistry focus to join our team in Trinity, Florida. This critical role is responsible for overseeing the daily operational efficiency, administrative functions, and compliance within our chemistry laboratories. The successful candidate will ensure seamless lab activities, manage resources effectively, and implement best practices to maintain high standards of quality and safety. This role requires a meticulous individual with a deep understanding of laboratory environments, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize daily laboratory operations, ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation.
  • Oversee administrative functions, including budget management, procurement of supplies, and vendor relations for chemistry departments.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce laboratory policies, procedures, and safety protocols in compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GLP, ISO).
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Lead and mentor a team of laboratory technicians and support staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of chemicals, reagents, and consumables, ensuring proper storage and disposal.
  • Prepare and present operational reports, budget analyses, and performance metrics to senior management.
  • Facilitate training programs for new staff on lab procedures, safety, and equipment operation.
  • Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments, as well as external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within the laboratory.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven experience with administrative tasks in a scientific or chemistry-focused laboratory environment.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, GLP, ISO).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common laboratory equipment issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Certification in laboratory management (e.g., CLM).
  • Experience with lean laboratory principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with specific analytical instrumentation used in chemistry labs (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, NMR).
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reporting for a laboratory.
