Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Municipal Parks Maintenance Worker to join our grounds maintenance team. This is an essential outdoor role, pivotal in ensuring Bolton’s parks, gardens, and green spaces are kept to the highest standards. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the aesthetic appeal and functional safety of our public areas. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance tasks including litter picking, emptying bins, and waste removal.
- Operate various hand tools and light machinery such as mowers, strimmers, and leaf blowers.
- Undertake horticultural duties, including planting, weeding, pruning, and watering plants, shrubs, and trees.
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance to park furniture, pathways, and play equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Report any damage, hazards, or maintenance issues to supervisors promptly.
- Contribute to team efforts, assisting colleagues as needed to meet maintenance schedules.
- Provide a high standard of service that reflects positively on Bolton Council.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding and ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- A commitment to health and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a similar outdoor role.
- Full UK driving license (Category B).
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna.
- Experience operating larger grounds maintenance machinery (e.g., ride-on mowers, chainsaws – with appropriate certification).
