Job Description
Sims Metal Management, a global leader in metal recycling, is seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team as Part-time Scrap Sorters for weekend heavy industrial work. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking for consistent weekend hours in a dynamic environment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our recycling processes by accurately sorting various types of scrap metal. This physically demanding role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually sort and separate various types of scrap metal (ferrous and non-ferrous) according to company guidelines.
- Operate basic sorting equipment as needed.
- Identify and remove contaminants from incoming materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with general yard cleanup and maintenance tasks.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet production targets.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions.
- Comfortable working in an outdoor, industrial environment, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to differentiate between various materials.
- Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Reliable and punctual, especially for weekend shifts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of English for safety instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial setting.
- Knowledge of different types of metals (ferrous vs. non-ferrous).
- Experience operating forklifts or other heavy machinery (certification a plus, but not required for this specific role).
