Job Description
We are actively seeking an experienced and highly skilled Phlebotomist to join our dedicated team in San Diego, CA. Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients of all ages with proficiency and minimal discomfort.
- Ensure proper patient identification and accurately label and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Adhere strictly to all OSHA, CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory guidelines and safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries and concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Document all procedures and patient information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and laboratory information system (LIS).
- Assist with inventory management and ordering of phlebotomy supplies.
- Participate in quality control activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor new or less experienced phlebotomists as needed.
- Handle challenging draws with confidence and expertise.
Required Skills
- Valid Phlebotomy certification/license in California (CPT-1 or CPT-2).
- Minimum of 2 years of continuous, professional phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture techniques for various patient populations, including difficult draws.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and specimen handling requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Proven ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Eligibility for visa sponsorship (e.g., meeting specific country requirements).
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a related healthcare field.
- Experience with specific laboratory information systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech).
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English) to serve our diverse patient community.
- Previous experience in a high-volume outpatient or inpatient phlebotomy setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
