Job Description

Are you a passionate and aspiring materials engineer looking to gain invaluable hands-on experience in the aerospace industry? GKN Aerospace is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Polymer & Plastics Engineering Intern focusing on advanced materials. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the research, development, and evaluation of new polymer and plastic materials for aerospace applications.
  • Conduct comprehensive material testing, characterization, and failure analysis using various laboratory techniques.
  • Support senior engineers in designing, optimizing, and selecting appropriate polymer-based materials for specific components and systems.
  • Accurately document experimental procedures, record results, and compile detailed observations and findings in technical reports.
  • Actively contribute to problem-solving sessions and continuous process improvement initiatives within the materials engineering team.
  • Learn and strictly adhere to industry standards, safety protocols, and quality control procedures in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of polymer chemistry, plastic processing techniques, and material characterization methods.
  • Proficiency in standard laboratory practices, experimental design, and data analysis software (e.g., Excel, Minitab).
  • Demonstrated strong analytical capabilities and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capable of articulating technical information clearly.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and work autonomously on assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior academic or project experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) for material design applications.
  • Familiarity with the properties and applications of composite materials, particularly polymer matrix composites.
  • Experience utilizing statistical analysis software for experimental data interpretation.
  • Basic knowledge of aerospace material specifications and certification processes.
