Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Public Health Educator Trainee to join our dynamic Community Outreach team in Peterborough. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about public health, community engagement, and health promotion, eager to gain hands-on experience in a supportive NHS environment. You will work under the guidance of experienced Public Health Educators, assisting in the development and delivery of health education programs, and actively engaging with local communities to raise awareness and improve health outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development, and delivery of health education workshops and programs tailored for diverse community groups.
  • Support the coordination and execution of community outreach initiatives, health fairs, and public awareness campaigns.
  • Prepare and distribute educational materials, including leaflets, presentations, and digital content, ensuring accessibility and cultural relevance.
  • Engage directly with community members to assess their health needs, provide information, and signpost to relevant services.
  • Collect and input data related to program participation and outcomes, contributing to monitoring and evaluation efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including local authorities, schools, and community organizations.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, safeguarding policies, and professional standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all community engagement activities.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from all backgrounds.
  • A genuine interest in public health, health promotion, and community development.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with supervision.
  • Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role or volunteer work in community settings.
  • Understanding of local health inequalities and community dynamics in Peterborough.
  • Knowledge of basic health promotion principles.
