Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our Mobile team. This vital role involves providing direct nursing services, health education, and disease prevention strategies to individuals and communities. As a Public Health Nurse with a government agency, you will work Monday to Friday, contributing to critical public health initiatives, promoting wellness, and addressing health disparities within the Mobile area. This position requires a commitment to community health and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct health assessments and screenings for individuals and families in various community settings.
- Provide immunizations and administer other public health treatments according to established protocols.
- Deliver health education on a wide range of topics, including chronic disease prevention, maternal and child health, communicable diseases, and healthy lifestyles.
- Investigate and monitor reportable diseases, implementing control measures to prevent outbreaks.
- Collaborate with community partners, schools, and other healthcare providers to coordinate services and promote health initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, adhering to all privacy regulations.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities as needed.
- Support public health programs such as WIC, Family Planning, and Environmental Health.
- Provide guidance and support to patients regarding access to healthcare resources and social services.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alabama.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with diverse populations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Knowledge of public health principles, practices, and regulations.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of various community groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Two (2) years of experience in public health, community health, or a related clinical setting.
- Certification in Public Health (CPH) or other relevant specialties.
- Experience with health education program development and delivery.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Vietnamese, etc.).
