Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our Mobile team. This vital role involves providing direct nursing services, health education, and disease prevention strategies to individuals and communities. As a Public Health Nurse with a government agency, you will work Monday to Friday, contributing to critical public health initiatives, promoting wellness, and addressing health disparities within the Mobile area. This position requires a commitment to community health and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct health assessments and screenings for individuals and families in various community settings.
  • Provide immunizations and administer other public health treatments according to established protocols.
  • Deliver health education on a wide range of topics, including chronic disease prevention, maternal and child health, communicable diseases, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Investigate and monitor reportable diseases, implementing control measures to prevent outbreaks.
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and other healthcare providers to coordinate services and promote health initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, adhering to all privacy regulations.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities as needed.
  • Support public health programs such as WIC, Family Planning, and Environmental Health.
  • Provide guidance and support to patients regarding access to healthcare resources and social services.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alabama.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of public health principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of various community groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of experience in public health, community health, or a related clinical setting.
  • Certification in Public Health (CPH) or other relevant specialties.
  • Experience with health education program development and delivery.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Vietnamese, etc.).
