Job Description

Are you passionate about customer service and looking for a rewarding role within public transport? Merseyrail is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Subway / Metro Station Attendants. This customer-facing role is crucial to ensuring a smooth, safe, and pleasant journey for all our passengers. You will be the first point of contact for many, providing assistance, information, and maintaining station standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service, assisting passengers with enquiries, directions, and travel information.
  • Operate ticket machines and assist passengers with ticket purchases and smart card issues.
  • Monitor station platforms and concourses, ensuring passenger safety and adherence to rules.
  • Report and escalate any safety incidents, suspicious activity, or operational issues to control.
  • Assist passengers with disabilities or special needs, ensuring accessibility and support.
  • Manage crowd control during peak hours or special events.
  • Perform routine checks of station facilities, reporting any faults or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of station areas, including platforms, waiting rooms, and public restrooms.
  • Handle minor first aid incidents and follow emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Collaborate with train crew, control centre, and other staff to ensure smooth operations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a customer service or public-facing role (minimum 6 months).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm and helpful under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing passenger needs.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills for handling transactions and understanding operational instructions.
  • A keen awareness of safety procedures and willingness to enforce them.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the transport, retail, or hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of the Merseyrail network and local attractions.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
