Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and community-focused Student Library Assistant to join our team in the Stone Creek branch. This part-time position is ideal for students looking for a quiet, study-friendly work environment that complements their academic schedule. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the serene atmosphere of our library, assisting patrons, and ensuring the smooth operation of daily library services. Key Responsibilities
- Assist patrons with locating materials, using computers, and general inquiries in a polite and helpful manner.
- Shelve and organize library materials accurately and efficiently, maintaining an organized and accessible collection.
- Process new materials, including labeling, stamping, and covering, to prepare them for circulation.
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the library, including study areas, shelves, and common spaces.
- Monitor library floors to ensure a quiet and respectful environment conducive to study and reading.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, ensuring all materials are properly secured.
- Support library programs and events as needed, assisting with setup and breakdown.
- Perform basic clerical tasks, such as answering phones and directing calls, and simple data entry.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school, college, or university.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort with online systems.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull library carts.
- A commitment to maintaining a quiet and respectful environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a library, bookstore, or customer service role.
- Familiarity with library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
